in 1988 krs one made the poignant declaration of never trusting a big butt and a smile on boogie down productions song *jimmy*. truer words have never been spoken. fast forward 2 years later, bell biv devoe are smashing the charts (urban to pop) with their debut single *poison*, and in taking krss words of wisdom the exact phrase - never trusting a big butt and a smile has a major part of the chorus. the world over was singing it.

a re-issue from the classic stable. this time a little something from early 90s chicago - written by mystic bill and carl giamerese the record was a staple part of luke solomon and kenny hawkes dj sets throughout the girls fm and bar rumba / space years.

the last few years have seen chicago footwork rise to international success, and traxmans debut album - *the mind of traxman* on planet mu - played no small part in that. it showcased cornelius fergusons brilliant ability to synthesise the beat digging of classic hip hop with the high-speed abstraction of footworks house-derived beat science. the selection of tracks on this second chapter show a slightly different take on traxman s abilities. instead of bringing in concepts from other genres, he simply creates a wider variety of footwork, made with a minimal, reduced palette. often just one or two samples are selected and diced into brain-blurring cubist puzzles that bear little relation to their original sources, or anything else for that matter.

as ljudverket is a heavily art-influenced label, the second release was made as a part of an sound installation for an exhibition in helsinki. rasmus hedlund & tuomo väänänens 2x12 inch album consists of 80 locked groove loops, 20 on each side. the installation itself holds 4 vinyl players, where every side of the records are represented as a sound source, from where the participators could themselves choose a random loop and thus create their own soundscapes. this is one for the collectors, and no more than 200 copies are being produced.

if you re going to launch a label, it s always wise to start with a bang. that s exactly what newcomers audio visual have done here, recruiting detroit veteran terrence dixon and chez damier cohort michael zucker (boss of finale recordings, no less) for a four-track trip into deep techno and intergalactic house. dixon goes deep into the groove on the hissing, intoxicating deep techno roller -mta-, before delivering a touch more melody on the retro-futurist gem -over the top-. zucker, on the other hand, opts for a jaydee-does-deep house feel to -foundation (part 1)-, before setting off towards the heavens with the deliciously deep, smooth reflections

ann arbors trees drops this wicked ep, six slices of lush, each on their own planet but part of the same galaxy, where techno, hip-hop and house rub up against jazz, kraut-rock and african percussion.

with *closer* masterton debuts on blackfoxmusics 19th release (bfm019). *closer* is a warm track with a deep groove and beautiful melodies. it relates to living in a long distance relationship and overcoming a lack of proximity.
robert babicz (babiczstyle, systematic, bedrock records) created an incredible remix. he used lots of the original melodies, combined them with new elements, added rolling drums and a thick bassline to give the track the extra drive. his remix became a constant part of his live sets and was debuted with great response at grelle forelle (vienna) and ritter butzke (berlin).
channel x (stil vor talent) remixed *closer* into a pretty cool and clubby deep house track. you can feel their berlin origin when listening to the groovy bassline with variations of the melody. finally the breaks capture the mood of the dissonant sounds from the original track.

jerome lol steps out of the shadow from defunct supergroup lol boys with his first solo release the deleted/fool ep on fof music. no stranger to electronic music he was named faders top djs to watch in 2013 and spent the better part of the year touring with baths, juan atkins and anthony shakir.

top quality remastered reissue of oses very rare and sought after old school vocoder electro jam *computer funk*, a stone cold classic with an awesome phat analogue bassline and some of the best vocoder vocals ever recorded. originally released back in 83 on the tiny florida label bound sound and produced by the great james mccauley, this is miami electro at its finest and it is easy to see why it has become such a holy grail with djs and collectors. must have.

here it is, the tenth and final chapter in the seaghdha story, as lo shea wraps up a monumental series with a special, limited 12 inch & cd compilation package. first up we get four more new tracks on the wax, its on is an atmospheric, driving house jam complete with melodic guitar effects, which ride the groove and combine with the devilishly deep low end to startling effect. got swagger strips things right back to the bone, a skeletal rhythm framework, those trademark atmospherics and rock solid low end. buchsheff sees us back in familiar lo shea territory, with a powerful warehouse rattler. finally to be sure brings it all home with a cinematic ambient piece. as if that wasnt enough we also have a hand-stamped cd comp, featuring those classic cuts from the earlier part of the series, which are now fetching serious change on the second hand market it is a great package, and a serious send off for what has been a hugely successful & widely supported musical endeavour.
